The 2000-2001 season saw many changes
in and around the Storm organisation. Kurt Kleinendorst departed the club to
join the New Jersey Devils in the NHL. Storm signed Terry Christensen as the
new Head Coach and General Manager. The Club itself was sold to new owners -
SMG.
The
season was a difficult one and many things went wrong for the new coach. Player
injuries and departures caused difficulties on the ice. The most devastating
was Frank Pietrangelo's career ending groin injury which saw the former NHL
netminder finally hanging up his skates.
Coach Christensen brought in other big names like Doug Doull and Kevin Brown who, despite their potential, failed to bring success to the team.
It was a poor season for the Storm .. and one that saw crowd numbers start to slip. A winning team had become a losing one .. and the financial sums began NOT to add up.
Storm failed to progress in the B&H cup beyond the first all ISL team quarter final, didn't make the cut in the Challenge Cup, finished 7th in the League and failed to make the play off finals after coming last in play off Group B.
